How Phone Calls Should Be Handled By Collection Agencies

By Rob Sutter

When I look at the telephone, I have mixed opinions about it as a device. On the one hand, it's almost needed for people to stay in touch and I think that the many advances over the decade have served to make our lives that much easier. With that said, I think that phones have also possessed a number of caveats and I can't help but feel like they could be avoided. All collection agencies can tell you how important phone calls are but do many businesses?

If there was ever a week when I didn't come and hear my dad, absolutely livid over the phone at a telemarketer, I would be very surprised. This person is usually selling my dad on some kind of item which does not hold much relevance, if any at all. It seems like this person over the phone is trying to make matters as inconvenient as one would imagine. My dad does not have the greatest temper in the world, either, which does not help in the least.

Collection agencies may say that you own a certain amount, which may be a problem depending on how weight that was. Maybe you don't owe that kind of amount and you're going to have to relay it over the phone as well. You, as a debtor, have a certain degree of rights and reputable agencies such as Rapid Recovery comprehend this fact as well. However, there are still those which totally disregard the rights of a debtor and this is definitely a serious issue to consider.

I do not want anyone to ignore a debt if it is truly legitimate because it's the worst action that could be done. However, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act gives the case about five days which is the time frame commonly associated with a notice coming to your door after a call is given. This is considered a validation notice, which tells you about the amount owed and the group it is owed to. There are also details you can follow in case you believe that the debt doesn't belong to you.

On the whole, though, collection agencies value phone calls and they know that harassment shouldn't be done in any area of work. If debtors don't feel as though they are safe, how else are they going to be able to go about communication without being coerced into doing so? Seeing the way that my father reacted to a telemarketer was, for lack of a better word, telling to me. It showed that there are ways that reputable agencies should work hard not to emulate.
